Big news for NRA members and gun lovers alike: a strong political figure is coming to speak at your Pittsburgh NRA convention this year. No, it isn’t Sarah Palin and it isn’t trigger-happy Dick Cheney; nope, it is none other than the great Mike Huckabee.
That’s right, the former Governor of Arkansas and potential Republican Presidential contender Mike Huckabee will be the keynote speaker for the National Rifle Association’s National Convention this coming weekend in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The convention is expected to attract over 65,000 people from all across the United States, giving Pittsburgh a huge economic adrenaline shot. According to NRA spokeswoman Rachel Parsons, “Pittsburgh is going to experience a great economic boom and this is something we are very proud and happy to bring to the city. Hotels are booked 20 miles outside the city.”
Guests and NRA members that are attending the convention this weekend are expected to spend more than $23 million in the city and restaurants, as well as other local businesses, are boosting the number of staff they have on hand for the weekend of the convention.
According to Mike Hamwey of Lidia’s, which is located in the Strip District, “It’s a great problem to have, but we love it. A lot of my staff members are NRA members. We always gear up for these big events.”
The National Rifle Association’s National Convention will be taking place from Friday, April 29th, 2011 until Sunday, May 1st, 2011 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. If you are a fan or member of the National Rifle Association or a fan of Mike Huckabee, this is one event you do not want to miss.
